"Women of Kaaram"

Kaaram is a women-led enterprise. Working toward an inclusive, egalitarian and sustainable work ethic. At Kaaram we are committed to preserving our heirloom recipes in the form of “masala mixes (spice pre-mixes)” and various other products in the most authentic and natural way, commercially viable.

Kaaram’s core culture is run by our “mompreneursKalpana ( humari Aai ) and Ramana (apni Amma), coming from a farming or food background they both have in depth know-how of the ‘ways of a farmer’, and with this enterprise both are looking forward to establish a helpful and sustainable community for the ‘farmers of India’.

Numerous studies show that women-led enterprises are particularly successful in creating a positive work culture. Gender diverse companies stand out in many ways. These places are not only positive workplaces for their employees but also deliver sustainable revenues.

In India, women-run companies account for about 14% of the overall start-up’s environment. Positively, this number is steadily rising. The Indian Government has also recognised the need for women entrepreneurs and women at workplace, and has promoted various schemes to further this cause. Presently, Kaaram is working with several active women on the fields harvesting and pounding the masalas for you, in the most authentic manner.

At KAARAM, we support our women employees to have a work-life balance as well as upskill themselves to further their professional goals. Our founders believe that it's important to recognise the cultural reality of women employees and accordingly help each one of them map their professional journey. By getting involved in the overall process, they also feel a sense of ownership and self-worth as they professionally involve themselves.

Making this goal a reality especially in the rural and semi urban areas where KAARAM works is, at times, more difficult. In these areas, the gender roles are strictly defined. In rural areas, women are an important and integral part of the farming sector. They do every job that the men do but when you think of a farmer the image that you conjourn is that of a Male Farmer. It is nearly impossible to change the way a community behaves collectively, unless we work on changing the life of women. We are working together with our partners to achieve this difficult task. As American author Helen Keller famously said, "Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much."

Women at KARAAM have acquired the required skills for advanced farming, handed over from one generation to the next. Farmers' ability, dedication, and creativity are crucial for the success of any farming business, their gender is not!

Women at KARAAM have shown that the sky's the limit, when women have the freedom and power to make their own decisions. The concept of “women empowerment” has become cliche but the ground realities are different. We have miles to go before we can claim that there has been substantive change in the personal and professional lives of women. Organizations that do not realize the importance of women in the workplace are missing out. Not just in contributing to the overall development of society but also in their own company’s performance. It’s important for organizations to walk the walk!

Women also need to demand more, and stand up for themselves! Follow their passions, speak up, and not be afraid to share one's own thoughts. KARAAM always ingrains these values as a part of our work culture for all the women who are working with us. Develop future plans and take the required actions to fulfill them. We must be sincere with ourselves, persistent in our beliefs, and enthusiastic about our work.

Every little step counts. Every change starts when someone takes an initiative to make things better. Then the rest of the community joins in. Let’s #EmbraceEquity!

By making a small purchase at Kaaram, you help us support women to an independent future, where they can educate themselves and the future generations to come!
